Begin your adventure with a scenic drive through the Mongolian countryside, watching endless steppe unfold before you.
Arrive at Elsen Tasarkhai, also called the Mini Gobi, a rare and beautiful stretch of golden sand dunes nestled between rugged mountains and grasslands.
Activities: Camel ride across the dunes, photography stops to capture the unique contrast of desert and greenery, and a visit to a friendly nomadic family where you can try traditional dairy products and learn about their daily life.
Overnight: Stay in a comfortable ger camp near the dunes. Enjoy a traditional dinner and marvel at the star-filled desert sky.
Drive to Kharkhorin, the legendary capital of the Mongol Empire, founded by Genghis Khan’s son Ögedei.
Here you will visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s first Buddhist monastery, built in the 16th century and surrounded by 108 white stupas. Wander through the monastery grounds and admire ancient artefacts and colourful prayer flags.
Continue to Khustai National Park, home to the wild Przewalski’s horses (takhi), a species brought back from the brink of extinction.
Activities: Afternoon exploration of the monastery, then an evening wildlife viewing excursion — with luck, you’ll spot herds of wild horses, red deer, marmots, and a variety of steppe birds.
Overnight: Stay with nomadic family, with the sounds of nature surrounding you.
Travel east to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, a place where granite rock formations rise dramatically from green valleys. The park offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, adventure, and cultural discovery.
Highlights: Stop at Turtle Rock, a giant rock formation shaped like a turtle. Hike or ride horses to Aryabal Meditation Temple, which offers sweeping views over the park and a serene atmosphere.
Activities: Meet a local nomadic family, try airag (fermented mare’s milk) if you dare, or take part in traditional games. Enjoy free time for optional hiking, horse riding, or simply soaking up the mountain air.
Overnight: Ger camp in Terelj, with a cosy wood stove and traditional meals.
Begin the day with a visit to the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue Complex, an extraordinary 40-metre steel monument honouring Mongolia’s national hero.
Explore the museum beneath the statue, which displays fascinating artefacts from the Great Khan’s era, and climb up inside the statue to the horse’s head for an unforgettable panoramic view of the surrounding steppe.
Return to Terelj National Park for a relaxed afternoon — enjoy a short hike, take photos among the stunning rock formations, or just sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet of Mongolia’s nature.
Evening: Return to Ulaanbaatar, where your tour concludes.
